As the monster Ice Storm rained down on the Heartland, you would have thought I was hosting an Academy Award after party to rival Vanity Fair.
Linguine, Alfredo, Shrimp, Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, and Baked Beans…Peppers, Cucumbers, Carrots, Avacado, Tomatoes all on the chopping block. Smells of Garlic, White Wine Sauce, Fresh Baked Bread, Peppericinis, Green Onions, Basel and Parsley all pouring from my kitchen with the tip tip tap tap of frozen rain on my kitchen window.
Why? Why am I cooking for an army? Maybe it’s the fear of losing power and having to deal with all the food in my fridge and freezer. I can easily have all the food cooked and share it with others or toss it all in tupperware (do people still call it tupperware?) and stack it outside in Mother’s Nature’s ice box.
Or maybe it was just time I got off my red crushed velvet chaise lounge in my bedroom and did something besides, check tweets, play with my virtual worlds, go in and out of slumber as the ice percussion hit my window and read.
I’m not used to being off work for the weather. Libraries never close and I haven’t had a grown up Snow Day in a while. Today I at least got it out of my system. I got a text from my boss that the library is closed again tomorrow! I’ve cooked everything I have…now I can tweet, virtual world and read all day tomorrow and not feel one bit bad about it 🙂
